Hi all,
i hope you mind, my mail is in english, because my japanase is very limited.
I just found that there is a Smalltalk mailing-list in Japan. I'm
living in Vietnam since november 2008 and i'm trying to meet
Smalltalkers all around Asia. I already setup a mailing-list for
vietnamese people:
http://lists.squeakfoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/smalltalk-vn 7
people registered right now.
Some days ago, i was attending ESUG'09 conference in Brest (France).
We were more than 144 Smalltalkers from Europe and elsewhere (a lot of
american and also argentinian guys) during one week. Please find a
report here for example:
http://news.squeak.org/2009/09/08/esug-2009-wrap-up-best-ever/
You can find more information about the conference on this web page:
http://www.esug.org/Conferences/2009 and the slides are here:

I definitly think we should initiate some kind of regular event in
Asia. I'm aware of the japanase and korean Squeak/Smalltalk community
and i think we need to boost the development of Smalltalk in all asian
countries.
Could someone give me some facts about the japanese Smalltalk
community ? Are you aware of any companies that is using Smalltalk in
Japan ? How many people subscribed to this mailing-list ? Do you have
some regular meetings ?
I guess we could ask some sponsoring from Cincom and also ESUG
(European Smalltalk User Group). BTW, i'm part of the ESUG board.
Some argentinian guys are organizing since 2007 a big Smalltalk event
called Smalltalks :
http://blogten.blogspot.com/2009/08/argentinas-third-smalltalk-conference.html
and they have some funds to invite some people (this year they would
like to invite Dan Ingalls).
I will travel in Japan in december for a conference. I would like to
meet some Smalltakers in the Kobe-Kyoto-Nagoya area.
Best regards,
